Feature Vendor... Duralee Fabrics and Products

Duralee demonstrates innovation through long-lived product lines synonymous with quality and in the empire that continues to be built.  The firm’s three main fabric divisions—Duralee, Highland Court and Suburban Home—offer variously priced lines targeted at a diverse customer base, achieving the perilous balance between the informal and the chic and producing product that is destined to reside in million dollar mansions as well as someone’s first home.  Duralee Fine Furniture and many Duralee fabrics fly under the tagline “Made in the USA” and assiduously are.  The company also imports from more than 45 countries.  From the modest one-room office, the company has grown to include warehouses and factories in Bay Shore, NY, and Morganton, NC, 12 corporate showrooms, 70 agent showrooms nationwide, and 41 international agent showrooms, including a presence in emerging markets.  That boils down to over 26,000 SKUs of fabrics, thousands of furniture SKUs and hundreds of employees.

The Art of Hanging Draperies--Yes there is one.

There really is an art and guidelines as to how to hang draperies over your windows. Badly hung draperies can make your room just look sad and not pulled together.. If you buy something because its the right color and you like it, you need to make sure they are long enough to be hung correctly... no "short pants" allowed!

When working with a Window Treatment professional they will point all these details out to you and can insure that everything fits perfectly. If you a DIY person then you need to consider a few things before you begin.

Where will your rod hang: how far above the window, how far will it extend beyond the window frame. You always want to add ad much lift and height to a room as you can. Your eye will follow the line of the drapes up and down to create this effect. Will your drapes touch the floor, puddle on the floor or sit just above?  How much space above the window can you use remember higher is better..

This is a great illustration showing how different the same window can look with the right proportions, creating height and appropriate scale for the room and window.

Shabby Chic....what does that mean to you?

Never has the phrase “everything old is new again” been more apropos. In a world where it’s easy to worship the newest and the shiniest, isn’t it nice to have a few things with some patina, some signs of wear…some authenticity?

That phrase says it all for me. There was a time when Shabby Chic meant everything was covered with roses and was pink, it can be, but what it really means is finding pieces that have been used, and loved, and have character and age. I love mixing furniture styles, textures and centuries in my rooms. An aged patina to a piece tells a story about where it's been and who it's been with....it's not assembly line made without life! I want things surrounding me that have that sense of history whether it's mine or someone else's.  So repurpose, redefine and reuse pieces that you find!

Here are few favorites that I would style in a family room space.

Great little reading space.. love the french inspired linen, the industrial style of the table makes
you wonder "where did that come from?"

Comfy sofa with neutral tones to work with any colors. The style is classic and versatile.

Add an Iron coffee table to offset the soft fabrics

A little high style mixes it up!

Great accessories are the crowning touch

Someone used these once what adventures they must have had!

Cozy throw reminds me of Great-Grandma's hand made quilts and the color make a splash!

I admit it, I'm a craft junky!

If I had small kids again I would be all over this! LOVE the idea of pre-packaged projects with a theme.. some days it's hard to entertain your kids and this is a great way to have fun together!

Blossom Box Kids

We put a lot of love and care into crafting each of our boxes with ideas and materials to spark your child’s imagination and creativity.  Each month we will provide a topic to explore along with 3 craft activities cohesive with that theme, a healthy recipe, a bonus item, and a newsletter.
We’re committed to using  non-toxic, natural materials and the impact on our environment is always a main factor when choosing our supplies. We also love repurposing common household items and objects found in nature to make crafts and would like to provide you with some ideas and inspiration for those via our newsletter and blog here on our site.
We purposefully leave out detailed instructions and end-result photos so your child can create something just as unique as they are without having expectations of how it “should” look. Instead, we will give you simple, inspired crafts with some guidelines and leave the rest to the imagination.
We believe in simplifying life, slowing down a little, and embracing the present moment. It is our intention to provide you and your child with a box filled with possibilities and wonder, a beautiful conversation starter, and an invitation to slow down and connect.

NEWPORT MANSIONS – Doris Duke from Pindler & Pindler

FEATURED FABRIC:
4699-Florentina is an Exclusive Newport Mansions Doris Duke™ multipurpose large scale floral embroidery. Florentina was inspired by a circa 1925 yellow silk day dress found in the wardrobe archives at Doris Duke’s Newport Estate, Rough Point. Our version of Florentina is an exotic mutli-colored floral and leaf vine pattern embroidered on a linen blend ground. The Newport Mansions Doris Duke™ Indoor/Outdoor Collection is an eclectic assortment of exotic patterns inspired by the personal gatherings of an iconic world traveler, Doris Duke.
NEWPORT MANSIONS – DORIS DUK
The historic Newport, Rhode Island, summer mansion of Doris Duke, called Rough Point, which showcases Miss Duke’s exquisite taste and personal style, has inspired Pindler’s Signature Exclusive Newport Mansions/Doris Duke Collection.
Doris Duke, the only daughter of James Buchanan Duke, was born on November 22, 1912. Her father was a founder of the American Tobacco Company, the Duke Power Company and a benefactor of Duke University.
When Mr. Duke died in 1925, he left his daughter an estate estimated at $80 million; Miss Duke was 12 years old. Miss Duke purchased her Newport, Rhode Island, estate named Rough Point and later a fabulous tropical getaway in Hawaii called Shangri-La. In these estates, Miss Duke displayed her collection of unique treasures that reflected her own personal taste and modern attitude for a woman of her time. Miss Duke spent much of her life traveling the world, amassing countless treasures and notable collections of Islamic and Southeast Asian art. She also traveled throughout Europe building her collection of fine art and furniture.
Miss Duke was a lifelong preservationist and environmentalist, and much of her fortune and her time were spent restoring Colonial buildings in Newport, Rhode Island, where she spent her summers.
Pindler is proud to be a part of a distinguished group of licensees allowed access to this wealth of inspiration. We have strived to capture the elegance and sophistication of this monumental historic property in our Signature Exclusive Newport Mansions/Doris Duke Collection.
This collection is a gorgeous assortment of designs with all the classic beauty of Doris Duke’s signature style. Pindler was fortunate to be given access to the glorious and universal collections and archives of fine decorative arts collected by Doris Duke. Inspired by exquisite art, antiques, furnishings and global findings found in Rough Point, we are proud to present our Signature Exclusive Doris Duke Newport Collection. This exquisite collection captures the timeless elegance and eclectic nature of Doris Duke.
